Phillip Schofield shared the moment that he returned home and was reunited with one member of his family after filming his new Channel 5 show, to win approval on desert island ” href=”https://www.express.co.uk/showbiz/tv-radio/1957485/phillip-schofields-tedious-attempt-win” target=”_blank”>Cast Away.
The former This Morning star shared that he had been away from his four-legged friend, pet dog Alfie, as he posted an emotional clip of them coming together once again.
Captioning the loving clip Phil wrote: “Alfie’s welcome after 3 weeks filming Cast Away available to stream now on My5.” The video showed him crouched down as he was surrounded by endless greenery wearing a grey and black hoodie and slack pants.
The former ITV presenter spoke softly as he said: “Alfie bear. Hello baby!” The dog ran straight into his arms and he yapped with excitement and his tail wagged wildly. Phil continued to say: “Hello baby,” over and over again before being knocked to the ground by the excited pup, as he added: “yes, it’s me!”
Fans were delighted with the sweet clip, which gained more that 11,000 ‘likes’ in just the first hour of being uploaded to Phil’s Instagram. Some admitted that it made them emotional too.
One wrote: “Love this,” followed by love heart eye emojis. Another added: “This is so sweet, made me cry.”
The Channel 5 documentary series marked the 62-year-old’s comeback to screens after he was forced to step down from all his hosting roles in May 2023.
He released a public statement at the time saying he’d “agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect,” after a 23-year run on the show.
This came after his controversial and “consensual” affair with a “younger male colleague” while working on the ITV programme. However, Phillip has maintained the relationship was “unwise, but not illegal”.
However, his latest TV venture has resulted in low viewership numbers.Despite high expectations, ratings data revealed only 1.4 million viewers watched the new show.
The programme sees Schofield marooned on a deserted island for a gruelling 10 days, armed only with a camera to document his solitary ordeal.
Meanwhile, ITV’s programming eclipsed Phillip’s show, with their new crime drama Joan featuring Game of Thrones alumna Sophie Turner seizing more than 2 million viewers.
